Aug 20. We went to the plaza here at prime had a tire class and did pretrip for like 6 hours. Got my psd trainer. Called me on the phone sounds like a older guy. He is coming to talk to me tomorrow at noon.

I am so worried about the pretrip. But then agian this is the first time I studied with a actual truck in front of me. It was hard to look at it with no many people whispering Properly mounted and secure, not cracked bent or broken. No abrasions, bulges or cuts, not leaking, nothing missing or shifted. Filled to manufacturers specifications. Lol but trainer should help me on that.

Today my trainer going to pick me up at noon, I'm finally going to get in a truck and start learning maneuvers. Trainer seems like a no nonsense guy. Been driving fir 6 years. He is a retired army drill Sgt. One thing he said to me was he treats training me like he did the servicemen he trained in the army ( without the in your face yelling) he said if he didn't train his men the right way and somthing happened that he failed his men.

Likewise in trucking if i don't succeed he would feel that he failed me. And as long as i had the drive to listen and learn that won't happen. So I'm all for that. My first time really studying the pre trip I got myself flustered. But after the second day I found myself getting better. I would go outside for a smoke, I would go down the list and speak out loud the pretrip. I found myself being correct on the wording. I didn't have a truck in front of me,but I know where every part is so i pictured it in my head. Now hopefully today when I drive a truck for the first time i get the nervousness out of me,which everyone i have talked to says that will pass. I will tell you all how it went later.

I dropped everything like alot of people sweated my file review got past that got so close to my dream and im just lost. If he doesn't take me tomorrow. What can I really do. Im a psd I'm not even hired if I complain they can get send me home even when everything is out of my control. Not getting to drive is making me doubt myself. Only good thing is I didn't just sit around i been killin the pre trip study, I'm not a slotch. Friday he just got back from a run then met me i understand that. I really like this company, but I think they short shorten the paperwork stuff. Start getting trainers a day earlier. I only have 14 days from last Thursday to get cdl or they send me home.i got 11 days left. Maybe I'm wrong on that. Don't know. I hate sitting i want to work.

But maybe it was meant to be. I got alot of pretrip memorized. But tomorrow we will see.

I do a bit of following and studying in this industry; and I've been hearing that on a regular. All I can say is Dang. I have no answers, and the vets perhaps do.

My mano hates sitting, as well. I'm grateful my husband's trucking job is/was considered 'essential,' hauling boxes to package the foods that the people need, through these tough times.

Still here, following. Wish you well...and hoping/praying you don't get sent home. Sheesh.

Wish I could offer more than 'virtual' support, man.

Just me;

Anne ~

KJ, I wouldn’t worry to much if your waiting on a empty sometimes it takes time or maybe their trying to get y’all a load straight out of the yard.

When I went though the psd phase if I remember correctly it was a week then they changed the length shortly after I left. I was supposed to arrive on a Monday to begin classes but that’s when they changed it where PSD students have to come in with their permit. Ended up flying in Tuesday night, started classes Wednesday morning left with a trainer by Friday. I was the last one from my class to arrive and the first one to leave with a trainer sometimes it’s just happens like that. Their were some people still waiting to be contacted by a trainer when I left Friday and still some people weren’t cleared to get their badge.

As far as the 14 days I’m pretty sure you have to be at least training PSD for 14 days before you can come back in to test out. PSD lasts on a average from 3 to 4 weeks in some cases I heard longer for those needing additional training. But some people can come back in two weeks if they feel like their ready to test out and it takes some a little longer I came back after a couple weeks and worked on the pad for a couple days then tested out. But that’s me everybody’s time frame and learning curve is different I’ve pulled different things since I was about 13 so I had the understanding of trailer movement and driving a longer vehicle.

I guess I got lucky with how quick my process was and who my trainer was. He lived a hour from me and I have family that lives 10 minutes from him. Just stay positive and it’ll all work out in the end.

Good luck to you, and look forward to reading about your journey. I’m sure other Prime drivers will respond also when they get the chance to confirm the 14 day policy.

Geez u got to learn the first law of trucking, hurry up and wait! Believe me it’s the hardest part of the job. First u have a trainer, some people don’t get trainers and do pad training. Now that there are smaller classes perhaps there are more psd trainers. Trainers do things different, some will take u a couple hours out bobtail so u can get feel of truck, then a few hours with a empty trailer. Then he’ll get y’all a load. Just remember this guy’s job is to get u through psd, he won’t be compensated till u finish psd and get your CDL. And if u pass your cdl on the first try, he gets a nice fat bonus. So don’t worry he’s gonna be giving u lots of attention. Prime didn’t bring u there to send u home. Unless u fail drug test or review and you’ve got that done. The week I came to prime it was the biggest class they had ever had 275 students, we did everything in shifts. I think there was about 200 of us after orientation week. Prime got us all through psd and tnt. Don’t worry prime will take care of you. I’ve been here two years and prime still takes good care of me.
